OSAEI Project Repository - Project ID 4
Bus-Connected Point-Of-Load Output Driver - Bidirectional Motor Controller

Project status: Pre-Design Discussions. Last updated on 0000-00-00 00:00:00. File repository contains files.

Synopsis

Single, point-of-use, high-current-capacity bidirectional motor driver that can receive control codes via CAN from a generic input processor

Full Description

The Bus-Connected Point-Of-Load Bidirectional Motor Driver is a universal device intended to work in concert with an Input Processor, with driver receiving and acting on commands sent from the Input Processor in response to activities on its input ports. By utilizing a data bus for commands, small-signal inputs with low current can effectively remotely control larger currents elsewhere in the vehicle.

This project entails the construction of a device with a high-current "H" bridge that drives a DC motor bidirectionally. The device also supports PWM drive capability as an option, which may be used to provide varable speed control. Please note that another version of this project exists that is intended for use as a single output driver - it provides a single high-current switch (specifically, a solid-state relay) that can be used to control the current flow to one item or circuit.

The programmable nature of the input controller, coupled with the application versatility of this driver, makes it possible to easily use it to perform complex actions such as operating all of the power windows and door locks in a vehicle.
